Are you thinking of visiting Machu Picchu through the famous Inca Trail?
We must tell you that to get to Machu Picchu on foot there are several alternatives, because if you are reading this text in March to May, you may see the tickets sold out until November. (This topic will be covered later.)
One of the new alternatives is the Inca Quarry Trail, which has surely been mentioned by some friends or acquaintances who have already made this experience unforgettable.

Near the Sun Gate and Veronica Snow Mountain in the background
This route, unlike the Inca Trail, does not lead directly to Machu Picchu (The Inca Trail does, and allows you a wonderful view of the Inti Punku), however, you will visit Machu Picchu on the last day of the tour.
Then, you can try the combined alternative, Inca Quarry Trail and Inca Trail.
Why is it an alternative to the Inca Trail?
Because of its beautiful landscapes and it is one of the most beautiful walks in Peru and Latin America, however it is not very crowded (unlike the Inca Trail that sometimes has many travelers) and few travelers have done it. Its beauty has caught the attention of many connoisseurs of walks and that is why you are here.

Andean Landscape of Inca Quarry Trail
We have said that it does not lead directly to Machu Picchu. To clarify, the tour can start in Ollantaytambo, then visit the Inca Stone Quarry (Inca Quarry) to reach the Sun Gate. The following days you can visit other places depending on the tour (Moonstone Trek, Ancascocha Trek, or the Inca Quarry Trek).
The one day before last one, you arrive (or return) to Ollantaytambo, take the train and the next day (Last day of the Tour) you visit Machu Picchu very early, which is recommended.
Starting, arriving or returning to Ollantaytambo depends of the tour.

Is this trek too difficult?

Inca Quarry Trail, ancient paths
The walk through the Inca Quarry Trail is less demanding than the Inca Trail, but you must always take into account this recommendations:
- The maximum height is 3700 meters above sea level.
- The tour can have up to 5 days.
- The availability of Machu Picchu and the Inca trail is limited between April and September, it is advisable to make a reservation 1 to 3 months in advance.
- The recommended dates are between March and September.
- The walk can be up to 25 km.
Inca Trail vs Inca Quarry Trail
The trek is similar to the Inca Trail, with colorful views of the Andean landscape, mountains, green and yellow. The small towns far from the city and places as high as Charcahuallya at 4450 meters above sea level (On the Inca Trail the highest place is Death Woman Pass at 4200 meters above sea level) make the difference for the Inca Quarry Trail. You can see mountains with snow-capped peaks like the Veronica when you arrive at the Sun Gate that make the Inca Quarry different.

Sacred Valley View from Cachicata
The Andean landscapes of the Inca Quarry are what most attracts the attention of the travelers who have made the trek. Along with the small number of travelers who make the route, the landscape , the places, the silence, and the experience is intimate, just for you.
The distance of the Inca Quarry is 25 km on average and that of the Inca Trail is 43 km, ancient Inca roads are also used (you have no idea of the There are many ancient roads in Cusco, discovered and undiscovered.) For this reason, the Inca Trail may be more demanding for some travelers

Goes through original rough seldom-visited Andean villages
Unlike the Inca Trail, the Inca Quarry uses the service of horses to carry luggage. In the Inca Trail is ported res, since it is an area protected by the government. And in the same way, our guides and services will be aware of you at every moment of the trip.
